30 Seconds To Mars

London 2-23-10

When we were in London we had to get to the venue in the middle of the night to get our wristband for being the first in the queue. We met up with Michael and he wanted to sleep outside the venue the whole night. We didn’t let him and brought him back to our hotel.

We woke up early to go to the venue anyway. It was really cold as there was a terrible wind teasing us. So, I went to the back of the venue where the security guard gave us tea and coffee to keep ourselves warm. I waited there for awhile.

When SDC arrived by car, they waved at me, but went straight inside. I saw the SDC tour bus and people were loading stuff of the bus. I saw Bobby and Brian and I tried to get their attention, but the bus was too far away. After a while they came back out again and they took the time to take photos with us and they signed stuff. I received flyers to hand out from SDC, but I had to get back to the queue, cause it was getting really crowded.

Inside the venue I was really pissed of at the security guys, cause they wouldn’t let us in and I almost didn’t get barrier. I couldn’t enjoy Lost Alone at all, but it all changed when SDC came on. It was like they took away all my anger.

The setlist of SDC was the same as the days before, but again really entertaining. When 30STM came on, I must say that everything seems to blend into one. The setlist was pretty much the same and it was because I wasn’t really into the gig. This was the day I don’t remember at all what happened during their performance.

I do remember after the gig that Jared came out and said that he really loved us for coming out to the show for them. SDC probably came out as well, but I really dont remember that.

Paris 3-05-10

When we got to Paris, we saw that the queue was already very long and it was early in the morning. We decided to go to the Eiffel tower. When we got there we went up to the first level. After so many stairs we decided to get something to drink first, before we would go further up. When we sad down, we saw that the Hive had posted a link for a Scavenger Hunt. We forgot all about going further up and made a plan to do the Scavenger Hunt.

We went to the center of the city to find the first things to take photos of. It took us all afternoon to get all the photos, but 1. We still had 1 photo to take and we decided to go back to the venue to see if there was a mohawk there. We searched but couldn’t find it. When it was time to look for Jon we walked around the venue at least 3 times. We couldn’t find him either. Finally after a while I saw Jon standing and we went to him. We received our free ticket and Jon saw the hoodie I had on which I got for my Birthday from Jean and he liked it.

When we finally got inside I went to the right side of the stage. I wasn’t completely up front, but I could see everything I wanted. This was actually a concert I didn’t enjoy very much. Probably because I was still pissed of from the Lille concert the day before and I was just having a bad day. Also 30STM switched the support acts around. SDC was up first and the second act was a bunch of stupid girls who didn’t play well at all.

30STM put on a great show though. Even though I wasn’t that into it. The setlist was the same. I knew exactly which song would come and I was kinda relieved I could be on my own for a while. I was only too tired to rock out the whole time. I had to stand against the wall a few times for it. We didn’t wait long after the show and I didn’t see anyone came out.

From Yesterday
A Beautiful Lie
Hurricane

Prague 3-18-10

We arrived in Prague in the afternoon. After parking the car we try to find the venue. To get to the venue we had to pass the tour bus. I didn’t want them to see me. So, I just put my hoodie on and I had sunglasses on. At the front of the venue there were already a lot of people waiting. We decided to go the the carnival, which was right next to it, but first we had to put some stuff from our friends in the car. When we walked back to the carnival I saw Tim walking and we said hi. He actually came over to us and we talked to him for about 1,5 hours. During our talk we saw a triad in the sky. Tim took a photo of it. It was really weird as we were just talking about signs. It was getting close to doors opening and Tim told us he had to leave. When he went away, we did go to the carnival.

We did a quick round through the carnival, but because we didn’t have money we didn’t go on any of the rides. We tried to get some food, but everywhere we go, they didn’t accept credit cards. We couldn’t get any food or drinks the whole day. So, we just went back to the venue.

When we got there the doors were just about to open and we saw people getting run over. The crowd was crazy and we decided to go in a bit later. When I got inside, I saw Bobby and he hugged me. I took a spot near the stage where I could see it well.

SDC was up first and when they were playing I was jumping on the edge of the upper level. I nearly fell off a few times. I was singing along with all the songs and it was the second time I heard “I Miss You”. It is weird how easy it is to sing along with the songs of SDC. It’s probably because I just love the songs.

With Car Park North I just stood there. I wanted to reserve my energy for 30STM. When I was looking around I saw Shannon coming out of the side and he went to Sergio. He was there for a few moments and went inside again. After a while Jared came out and he saw us standing there. He was looking at the CPN act, but I think he saw that the crowed wasn’t that into it. Only he didn’t do anything about it. When CPN was almost done Jared went inside again. I told Elise that Jared wasn’t going to jump in the crowed, but he was going to climb the rafters and I pointed out 1 of them.

When 30STM started to play, it was actually kinda the same as they played the last few shows. Usually they change the setlist a bit around, but I had a feeling I went to too many of the shows, cause it all seemed like the same to me. Only the acoustic set was really different. Instead of Jared coming up with his acoustic guitar. The crew rolled in the keyboard. Jared started to play “Hurricane” on it and for the first time ever, he played “Alibi”. I went nuts when I heard that song as Jared told us he would never play it live. I was there when Jared played “Alibi” for the first time. That was just such a head rush. The rest of the songs were the same as the previous setlists.

After the gig, I hang out with Braxton for a bit to hand out his stickers. I received a little pile and gave them away within 5 minutes. I went back to Braxton to tell him and he was amazed. When I got another set. I try to give them away, but we were being rushed out by security. I talked to Brian for a bit there and security stopped bothering me to get out of the venue. When I finally went up the stairs I saw Adam and Scott still giving autographs. I waited by a wall and eventually Adam came over to my side. Only he didn’t recognize me till later on. When he finally saw me he hugged me and talked to me for a bit. He said he saw me walking in the city, but he wasn’t sure it was me, cause he didn’t know I was coming. When I told him that I would go to every show he remembered. When it was time to leave I went straight to my car, cause my ankle was killing me. I couldn’t walk anymore.

A Beautiful Lie
This Is War

Zürich 03-23-10

We arrived in Zürich really early. We were the first ones there. I had trouble finding a parking spot anywhere near the venue. Finally I just put my car somewhere where you can only park for 2 hours only. I just went back every 2 hours to fill the meter.

The crew had to put every piece of equipment through the front door. We saw everything go inside and a lot of stuff coming back out right away. It was the smallest venue of this tour.

In the queue we made sure about the mission Tomo has put upon us. We made sure everyone in the first few rows knew about the rocking out from start to end and if we were lucky and got the crowd go nuts we might get “Stranger in a Strange land” and maybe a surprise.

When I started to hand out promo Elise started to do the war paint. When there were a couple of bitches who thought they could go in front of us, but Eddy came out and I asked him if he could do something. He said we could go in sooner, but he couldn’t get it done. They wouldn’t allow us in sooner, but he was at the barrier and held our places there. We all managed to get barrier, because of him. Thank you Eddy!!!

We rocked out from start to end literally. From the first seconds that SDC came on. All through Car Park North. Till the last second of 30STM.

With SDC starting I had mixed feelings, because it was the last gig of the tour and I would miss them very much. I sang along with every single song and when SDC sang “I Miss You” we all put up banners saying “We will Miss You”. Also when they finished their set we held up the banners again. I received a setlist from Brian.

Car Park North again was boring and I didn’t feel well, but I managed to squeeze more energy out to have fun than I thought. After a couple of songs Jared ran on stage with CPN and jumped up and down like a little kid. Screaming “jump” in the microphone like he always does. It was really funny to see that. He went off stage for only a second and apparently changed his mind, cause he ran on stage again till CPN finished their set. Than Jared thanked CPN and went off stage.

I was exhausted after that and we still had 30STM to go. The security guards didn’t give us any water and it was kinda hard to stay at the barrier. I actually think I almost fainted for a bit. And the worst part was that we had fangirls behind us who tried to get to the barrier by kicking and screaming.

It was finally time for 30STM and I must say that this was the best setlist they played on this tour.

When 30STM came on stage, they had the same setlist as the previous shows. I still love seeing Shannon play the guitar with “L490”. The acoustic part was a bit different though. Jared started with “Hurricane”. After that it changed. He played “Message in a Bottle” for us and after that he played “Capricorn” I actually thought he was done with his acoustic, but I was wrong. He played “Echelon” and even “The Mission” as well. I guess he did see my banner. When the acoustic part was done the setlist was pretty much the same again. Till we saw Tomo putting on a red light on his head. I guess Tomo saw that we kept our promise of rocking out the whole show that they played “Stranger In A Strange Land”. I couldn’t believe they played it. I was stunned the rest of the set and still I have trouble believing it all and I was actually there.

After the gig we stayed at the back for a while and we hang out with SDC. I heard Shannon was sick and needed to go back to the hotel immediately, I understood why he was a bit grumpy the last couple of days. I talked to Tyler for a while and after that Adam came out as well for a bit. I thanked Eddy again, but I couldn’t thank him enough for the things he had done for me the whole tour.

After a while we went back to the hotel and I was dead. I slept right away, cause I was tired from all that touring. I was actually glad it was over and at the same time sad. I had to get back to my life back in The Netherlands.

Cardiff 2-21-10

I went to the train station to go to Cardiff. There I met up with some friends who told me they were all on a earlier train. So, I went to the costumer service and they told me that I had to pay a lot of money to change the ticket, which I didn’t want to do.

When I met my friend Donna I started to talk about how Jared managed twice to not be seen by us. From walking from tour bus to the venue and the tour bus wasn’t even parked near the doors. I made a joke about the only thing Jared needed was a microphone stand to not be seen at all, cause he is becoming so skinny. She told me I should draw it, but I didn’t want to do it as I don’t know how to draw anything.

When it was almost time for them to leave we heard that their train was delayed. I was kinda happy to not be left alone. So, we talked for a bit more and finally the call came that their train was cancelled and everyone would be in my train. I was so happy that everyone was gonna be in the same train as me that we made it an echelon wagon.

We had 4 tables reserved for the echelon and we were loud. Donna actually started to draw the idea of Jared behind a microphone stand with only his shoes and his mohawk. I put every tour date I was going to on it and we laughed the whole time about it. There were several photos of the drawing.

When we got to Cardiff, we went straight to the venue as the hotel was across the venue. There were already a lot of people in the queue and the queue was from 2 sides. So, we decided to freshen up first.

When we went back out again, we went to the back of the venue and we waited for a while. I saw Shannon walking from the tour bus to the venue. I waited a bit longer and Bobby and Scott went back inside the gate. Seconds later Bobby ran out again and wanted to take a photo with us. He posted it on his twitter (@BobbyAlt).

I went back to the queue to do promo and we went through the promotion material in minutes. This time everyone wanted to have it. So, we went back to the line and there we saw a photo of a car and Tomo wrote on it “Tomo loves U” and he signed it.

I can only remember that 30STM played “Stranger In A Strange Land” and Shannon playing “L490”. This because I was just too tired of not sleeping for a while.

Manchaster 2-20-10

I went to Manchester by bus, but I arrived really late that day. I was lucky my friends Michael and Amanda kept my spot in front. I also started to promote 30STM and SDC immediately, cause there wasn’t that much time till the doors open.

After the promotion I went back to the front of the queue, where Michael was waiting for me. He put me in front of him. We had to wait a while, but it was worth it. When the doors opened we went inside and again we had to queue, which was weird. Then the security guards let us down the stairs and when we finally got down we ran to the barrier. We had great spots in front of Shannon/Tim.

Lost Alone was first again and they were better this time. It really seemed like they had the song down this time and there was less showing off. SDC came on next and their songs were still in my mind. I could sing along with a few of them already. The funny part was that after 2 gigs the guys of SDC already recognized me. At least Bobby did. He came by with his phone to record the first row and when he saw me he backed up and waved at me. As they did the night before they put on a great show. Then it was time to change the stage for 30stm.

As they came on stage with “Escape” We all went a little bit crazy. Especially cause I was finally with friends and we all had all this energy which came lose when the curtain dropped. “Night of The Hunter” was next and Jared was jumping on stage like a mad man. He came to our side of the stage a little bit too many, but that was great to see that he rather rocked out with us then with the other side. SDC came on when “Vox Populi” started and showed us again how we had to stamp and clap. Of course the gig wasn’t a gig if they didn’t play some songs of “A Beautiful Lie”. That’s why they played 4 song of that album, but this time it was more at the end of the setlist. And Shannon playing L490 again was very good to see. It is good to see that Shannon does do other things than drumming. After Shannon, Jared showed up somewhere on the balcony again. I wasn’t about to lose my spot and turn around. That’s why I kept looking at the screens in hope that they showed something, but they didn’t. I heard him play “Capricorn”, which was good to hear again. On the second stage they played “The Fantasy”. When they came back to the main stage. I heard them play “Closer To The Edge” and Tim was again the one who played guitar instead of the bass. When “From Yesterday” started I actually didn’t know where to look as Shannon was on the big screen and on stage. Which was kind of hard to focus on one thing. It was a while ago that I saw the video of “From Yesterday”. Jared asked again who wanted to sing on stage with him again, but there were only 5 people allowed this time and Jon, was very strickt in that. I didn’t even bother to be picked, but there were guys behind me and they pulled me up and got me over the barrier anyway. I only had to leave. Which kinda sucked, cause I finally managed to get over it.

After the gig, SDC came out again and I talked to them a bit. After that we waited for the guys at the back and only Tomo came out for a bit. I did get a photo and my wristband got signed. After that we went back to the hotel.

Nottingham 2-19-10

I arrived in Nottingham on the day of the concert. I went straight to the venue to check out how many people were already queueing. Just to get a feel of how the tour would be like queueing wise. I saw that there were already people waiting and I went to the back of the venue to see if the tour bus was there.

As I came up to the back I saw Tim walking from the tour bus to the venue. After a while he came back apparently to get Tomo. They both went inside the venue. Then Tomo came back to get his guitar and he stayed a few moments to talk to us as well. When he went in again I went to find my hotel to put my suitcase in the room.

After a fast clean up I went back to the venue and met up with my friend Pie. We started to promote 30 Seconds To Mars and Street Drum Corps. When we were done we went to see if we could
put some posters up inside the venue. So, we talked a bit to Jon and Emma. When they left we waited till the doors opened.

I had a VIP ticket and I was actually the only one in my section. I had a lot of room to have fun. First up was Lost Alone. I must say it wasn’t their best performance. Then Street Drum Corps was up. They had a really entertaining show. I didn’t know the songs, but they were very catchy and very easy to learn the words to. After the support act we had to wait at least 30 minutes till the show went on.

30 Seconds To Mars came on with Escape and SDC (Street Drum Corps) was on stage as well. I had a really nice view of the stage. They had switched the stage around a bit and Shannon on the right side where Tim used to be. I finally had a chance to make really good photos of Shannon. Also I was a bit disappointed that they put Tim in the back. 30STM did put on a wonderful show. They played Night of the Hunter which was amazing to hear live for a change. When they played Vox Populi SDC came on stage to help us with the stamping and clapping part. Also they had these big flashlights which they shown on Shannon and everywhere else. When Jared was done with the 100 Suns solo, the crew put up a crystal bowl and when Shannon came on stage and went to the bowl. I just knew it had to be L490. He first made music with the bowl and when he was finished Tim came on with an acoustic guitar and a few seconds later Tomo came on as well to play the first two guitar parts. Then Shannon came on again and he sat down on the edge of the stage and he started to play an acoustic guitar as well. It was so beautiful to hear that song live. When he was done he got of stage and Jared was somewhere on the balcony to do his acoustic part. When he started with The Kill acoustic he sort of made his way to a second stage and that’s where Shannon, Tim and Tomo were already playing and waiting for Jared to come to them. On the second stage they played the Fantasy. They also played Closer To The Edge and I loved it when I saw Tim doing the guitar part instead of the bass for a change. The last song of the setlist was Kings & Queens. With this song Jared asked a few people on stage to sing with him. There were about 30 people there and none of them know the words to the song, which was kinda stupid, cause they only wanted to be there for Jared.

At this show I received the setlist. After the show I waited for my friends and we went to the back where Shannon came out, but only for a few minutes. I didn’t even have time to reach him. He went inside again really quickly. We waited till 2.30 am, but nobody else came out. So, I went back to my hotel.

The set list for Nottingham:

Escape
Night of the Hunter
Attack
Vox Populi
A Beautiful Lie
Search and Destroy
This Is War
100 Suns
L490
A Modern Myth
The Kill (Acoustic)
The Fantasy
Closer to the Edge
